Chalet Les Serandes in Nendaz, Valais
The Valais area of Switzerland is justifiably famous for the majestic mountain peaks that dominate the views in all directions and the Rhone Valley that cuts through its centre. The area contains many summer and winter resorts that are famous the world over – Zermatt (nestling beneath the Matterhorn), Saas-Fee, Crans-Montana and Verbier to name but a few. The extensive four valleys ski area starts with the Verbier region in the west and runs to Thyon and Les Collons in the east, ecompassing both Nendaz, Siviez and Veysonnaz along the way. Providing over 400 kms of piste and skiing/boarding for every level of ability, it is a winter sports dream destination.
With over 300 days’ sunshine a year, the french-speaking Lower Valais area is famous for its orchards, market gardens and vineyards, as well as numerous picturesque villages and towns. With Lake Geneva and Martigny in the west , and Brig (the gateway to Italy) and the world heritage site of the Alestch glacier in the east, the Valais area has something for everyone, all year round.
Nendaz, at 1300 – 1450 metres high (with peaks rising to 3300m behind it) is a lovely small town with fantastic views and an abundance of activities to keep holidaymakers busy in both summer and winter.
There is a full dossier of places to visit and things to do in the chalet along with guidebooks and maps.
There is a range of facilities in the resort: supermarkets, butchers, boutiques, post office, banks, restaurants, bars, disco, sports/fitness centre, sauna, massage, plus children’s playground, chemists and doctors. In summer there’s a delightful open-air pool with views across the Rhone valley and tennis courts. In winter, there’s an artificial ice rink for skating and ice hockey. Nearby Siviez has squash courts.
Nendaz has been given a child friendly award by the tourist board for summer and winter activities eg a Robin Hood excursion in the summer months and ski kindergarten in the winter.
